Balkan Flambé is an allegorical work that combines the synesthetic and symbolic
quality of objects and food together with the performative aspect of physical action
to comment the recent conflicts in the Balkans.
While food, music, fire, and "cooking" shape a minimal and deliberately obvious
narration, Balkan Flambé displaces the direct experience of its 'conveyed' subject towards
a more indirect and formal dimension – relating in particular to the history of art - the
vanitas in the painting tradition, and certain performances of Marina Abramovic.
